Friday Gratitude

A list of things I am grateful for this week.

My host mom told me, via my host brother, that she doesn’t mind if I bring the kitten into my room for short periods. (Her concern is that the kitten might go to the bathroom inside.)

The other night, I was holding the kitten in the living room. My host mom came rushing in and told me to put her in the garage. My host father had just gotten home. I guess she didn’t want us to get caught. 😉

Someone to watch over me …

I know I keep saying the view, but, THE VIEW!

And last, here is a small sampling of some people I am beginning to love. (Hannah, in yellow, was my roommate in the World’s Smallest Hotel Room. She’s funny as hell.)

I finished re-reading one of my favorite pieces of fiction, Barbara Kingsolver’s The Poisonwood Bible. It’s about a disillusioned Christian missionary in the Belgian Congo. Now I’ve started Lab Girl, scientist Hope Jahren’s memoir about her life, work, and relationship with her best friend/lab partner. I saw it at Dulles airport on the day I left for Kosovo and thought it looked interesting.

Last, here is a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Whitney. We’ve been friends for over 30 years. (I hope you’re having fun in Los Angeles, girl! Love to you from Kosovo.)

In Las Vegas, three weeks before I left for Kosovo

Have a great weekend, everyone, and I’ll post again Monday!
