Here are some things I am grateful for this week:
- I was on the bus. In front of me was a woman and her daughter, who looked to be around seven. At one point, the daughter rested her head in her mother’s lap, and her mother began to stroke her hair. It was such a sweet moment. I was struck by this thought: “People should give women more credit.”
- The puppies! It’s about all I can do not to fill my blog posts and Instagram feed with non-stop pictures of them. (But I don’t want to be that person.) They’re running around now, all stiff-legged puppy prance. And they can bark. Do you know how adorable it is to have a little puppy run up and bark at you?!
- I finished the novel Fates and Furies, which I think brings the total number of books I’ve read since I’ve been in Kosovo to five. (Not so good.) I didn’t particularly like any of the characters in this book (usually a deal-breaker for me), but it is beautifully written and had enough twists and turns to keep me interested. I had a hard time putting it down, and finished it within three days. It’s worth a read.
Other books I’ve read/re-read since I’ve been here are:
The Poisonwood Bible
All the Light We Cannot See
Between the World and Me
The Joy Luck Club
- I had fun doing a little shopping with friends over the past week. I found index cards (!!! SCORE!!!) in a nice acrylic box, and have been making flash cards to practice my Shqip (still on my to-do list: find a tutor).
I also found a Hello Kitty aluminum cup. My friend Sierra would roll her eyes at me if she read this … (but I don’t think she reads my blog — so I am safe!). The cup didn’t have a price tag on it. When I brought it up to the register, I found out it was 14 Euro. To save face, I bought it anyway. And then I had buyer’s remorse, like, why did I just spend 14 Euro on a cup?! But anyway, I’ve decided to embrace my purchase. I think it looks good sitting on my desk at home, holding all my do-dads.
You’ll notice I haven’t been posting many photos as of late. That’s because I’ve already used 13% of the storage I get with my WordPress plan, and I’m only 3 months in to my 27 months in Kosovo. eeeeeee! I need to figure out a solution, whether that’s posting smaller photos, fewer photos, or hosting them somewhere else and linking to them.
Have a good weekend! Talk to you Monday.
